I’m not very good at writing. When I first learned how to use AI, I thought I’d just have it write for me.
But right around that time, the platform I was about to start using was overflowing with text that was clearly AI-generated — mechanical, cold, with no warmth in it at all. It put me off.
That’s when I decided: I’m not good at writing, but I’m going to write myself.
And on that same platform where I started writing, little by little, people began finding their way to my site.
Some of them were writing novels, essays, screenplays. Their expressions and phrases were things I never would have come up with on my own, and they inspired me.
I started wondering — how do they come up with something like that?
So I thought: if I built a tool that could analyze the gap between my writing and theirs, and give me something to work with, maybe I could close that gap and get better at writing along the way. That’s why I created the analysis tool.
As AI gets more accurate, it’s definitely possible to have it generate text that mimics your style. But when you read it, something feels off — that little hmm moment. Or the nuance shifts completely just because one word in a connector changed.
Personally, I think getting AI to capture that human sensibility is genuinely hard.
And since I believe writing reflects who you are — I think it’s fine to let AI help with the broad strokes. But even though I’m not good at it, I’ve decided to write my own words.
I’d like to think I’ve gotten a little better since I first started writing. Just a little.
